  2. Intro Hello again. Back with another discussion about the upcoming Completionist Capes. Earlier we discussed the main requirements for unlocking the cape (boss killcounts, clue completions, etc) in this topic here, so now we want to narrow in on the XP rate requirements. As shown in the above picture, we currently have three different versions of the Completion Cape: black, red, and white. Since one of the requirements for unlocking the Completionist Cape will be to achieve max total level on your XP rate, our plan is for players to unlock a different color cape depending on their XP rate. So this poll will be for determining what the three XP rates are. The Poll Options Based on our own internal discussions plus input from the community, there are 3 primary options currently being considered. ** Note that if you unlock a higher-tier cape you will automatically unlock the lower tiers as well. For example if there's a cape unlock at 5x and 15x and you are playing on 5x, you would unlock both the 5x and 15x capes. ** Option #1: Players meeting the requirements on: 1x would unlock the White Cape 5x (no-lifer) (and below) would unlock the Black Cape 15x (extreme) (and below) would unlock the Red Cape Option #2: Players meeting the requirements on: 5x (no-lifer) (and below) would unlock the White Cape 15x (extreme) (and below) would unlock the Black Cape 50x (normal) (and below) would unlock the Red Cape Option #3: Players meeting the requirements on: 1x would unlock a different version of the cape that would need to be designed 5x (no-lifer) (and below) would unlock the White Cape 15x (extreme) (and below) would unlock the Black Cape 50x (normal) (and below) would unlock the Red Cape
  3. If that's the case and something that could easily be done, I think I'd be OK with leaving in the zenyte and crystal tool achievements and instead replacing the onyx amulet one with the DMZ one that we had added. I know many irons skip fury in order to save the onyx, so that's not necessarily part of the normal progression.
  4. Intro Hey everyone, As I mentioned a couple weeks ago in the discussion about the Completionist Cape (https://forum.oldschoolrsps.com/index.php?/topic/951-completionist-cape/), recently we've been discussing a revamp of the achievement system. The initial ideas I believe came from @Looting Bag (I'm not sure if anyone else was involved with that but thank to you whomever else helped), so we've taken those suggestions and applied some of our own tweaks to them, and now we'd like to get everyone's thoughts on them. Goals of the new system To quickly start off, I just wanted to mention our goals for the new system. At the core, we felt that a good achievement diary system would have a logical progression to it rather than just achievements placed haphazardly just based on how difficult they are. And this would be a progression not only of a player's levels in particular skills, but also their gear and their proficiency at the game. We also felt that the diaries would be a great way to introduce players to particular pieces of content on the server they might not have experienced otherwise. Furthermore, we also wanted to avoid any achievements that were overly RNG-based since having luck is not really an achievement, as well as any achievements that were overly grindy and more or less involved just completing the same thing over and over again. And finally, since the server has been out for a decent amount of time and many players have already reached endgame, we wanted to avoid too many achievements that a player may have already completed and would then have to re-do (this applies particularly to ironmen). Where applicable, some achievements would likely be able to be completed retroactively in order to solve this issue in some cases. Diary rewards Similar to OSRS, completing every achievement in a diary would unlock the ability to buy and wear the respective tier of the achievement armor. "Easy" unlocks tier 1, "Medium" unlocks tier 2, and so on. You'd also need to complete the lower tiers before unlocking the high tiers. For example if you complete all of the Medium diary achievements but haven't yet completed all of Easy, you would not be able to wear the tier 1 or the tier 2 armor. And finally we've included a "Master" tier which does not unlock a tier of armor but would unlock the achievement cape. The tentative diaries These are the diaries as we currently have them. Note that we also hope to have this be an expandable system, where new achievements may be added to certain diaries down the road as new ones are suggested or new content is added to the game. Changes made to the original suggestions: For the sake of transparency and for whomever is curious, here are the changes that we made from the original suggestions, with a short explanation of why we thought to change it: Feedback wanted In general we want to know your thoughts on the system as a whole. Do you agree with the goals of the new system? Do you even feel the need for a new system at all? And so on. And then of course we're looking for any feedback on the achievements themselves. Are there any you dislike? If so, what would you replace it with? Are there any that you feel don't fit into their current tier? If so, where would you move it and what would you replace it with? I also wanted to call out a specific achievement as one we're more on the fence about compared to the others, so that we can hopefully get some suggestions for it. And that is the Master achievement to "Craft a crystal tool". This suffers from the same issue as something like "craft a zenyte amulet" where if an ironman has already crafted their crystal tools they'd be forced to do it all again. However, simply replacing this with "equip a crystal tool" would make the achievement essentially buyable for all non-ironmen since both the dragon tool and the crystal tool seed are tradeable. What are your thoughts on this one? We look forward to reading your feedback. The OldSchool staff team
  5. Bout time you got here. Welcome welcome
  6. Hey all, For this week's staff update we're happy to announce the following promotion: @Bot has been promoted to Server Moderator Please wish him the best of luck in his new position. We will continue to look for more staff members, so if you believe you should be given a chance, feel free to post a server support application here. Best regards, The OldSchool staff team
  7. If I recall correctly, the drop rate is 1/10 and you'll get multiple shards per drop. So yeah I'm thinking that you've just been slightly unlucky.
  8. Highlighted a couple of the points I wanted to discuss. The way I/we've been thinking about it is that the completionist cape requirements are separate from the achievement system and expend on it to include some of the grindier requirements that wouldn't fit well into an achievement system, in my opinion. The "niche" things, as you put it, would be things that we'd include in the achievement system. Niche things like the affinity system, dominion zone minigame, graceful, slayer helm, and slayer unlocks, and also progression-type things so that a player can progress through the easy-medium-hard-elite-master diaries as they level up, get better gear, get better at raiding, etc. Grindy achievements, like kill X npc Y amount of times make the achievement system boring and I think those fit better as comp cape requirements since that's more in tune with "completing" the game (i.e. mastering a particular boss by getting sufficient kc). I also don't see a problem with this system as far as expanding the achievement system in the future. Completing the "easy" diaries unlocks the tier 1 armor, "medium" the tier 2 armor, and so on. If we wanted to introduce a new achievement to the medium diary down the road for example, players would no longer be able to wear their comp cape or their achievement cape or their tier 2/3/4 armor until they complete those new steps.
  9. Most likely will not be anything OP. Skotizo was also not meant to be included in that 250 kc.
  10. Intro Hey everyone, As some of you are probably aware, recently we have been discussing, both among the staff team and with players, the addition of a Completionist Cape to Old School RSPS. As its name suggests, the Completionist Cape is meant to be awarded to players that have "completed the game". Now, of course "completing the game" is an incredibly vague requirement and probably means something different to everyone, which is why we wanted to create this post to show the requirements that we have come up with so far and to get your feedback on them. Should a requirement be changed in some way? Should a requirement be removed? Added? And so on. The goal was to have a set of requirements that were well-rounded and covered the majority of the content available in the game in order to give a player the achievement of "completing" the game, while not being so incredibly grindy that no one would want to work for the cape. Tentative Requirements This list of tentative requirements has been combined from suggestions from both the staff team and from players. I want to stress that these are tentative requirements, meaning none of them are set in stone. That's what this feedback is for. I've also included some specific questions about each requirement for which we're looking for feedback. Of course, the other feedback we are open to is the addition of any new requirements or the straight up removal of any of themt. So here's the list: Maxed on 15x XP rate or lower Feedback wanted: Is 15x too high? Too low? Should 150x players be able to achieve a Completionist Cape while on 150x? Completed every achievement **NOTE: We have also been discussing a rework of the achievement system to organize the achievements into "diaries" and to follow a more typical progression of a player as they move through the major content on the server. ** 250+ killcount at each boss (excludes Wilderness bosses; includes Barrows and Wintertodt) Feedback wanted: Is 250 too high? Too low? Should any more bosses be excluded? EDIT: this 250 kc would not include Skotizo either. 100+ killcount at each raid Feedback wanted: Is 100 too high? Too low? 10+ Inferno completions Feedback wanted: Is 10 too high? Too low? Clue scroll completions 25 Master 50 Elite 75 Hard 100 Medium 150 Easy Feedback wanted: Are any of these numbers too high? Too low? And here are a few other miscellaneous requirements that have been suggested that we're currently on the fence about including. If you have any feedback related to these, feel free to mention that as well. Purchase a music cape. This is kind of a "free" requirement since it's not difficult or time-consuming to achieve. So maybe it's unnecessary. Achieve X days playtime. Our current opinion is to not include any kind of playtime requirement in case players ever wanted to compete to see who could get the fastest Completionist Cape. Achieve X slayer task streak We think this one will not be necessary as long as the maxed requirement is for a sufficiently low XP rate. For example, someone who has achieved 99 Slayer on 15x has already done quite a lot of slayer tasks, so there's no additional achievement in just grinding out more tasks. However if we brought up that requirement to maxed on 150x, then I could understand some sort of requirement for slayer task completions. We look forward to reading your feedback. 11. Hey all, A quick staff update post for you. We're happy to be making the following promotion this week: @frenchy has been promoted to Server Support Please give him a warm welcome to the team and wish him the best of luck in his new role. He'll be there for your convenience and help whenever you require assistance in-game. We will continue to look for more staff members, so if you believe you should be given a chance, feel free to post a server support application here. Best regards, The OldSchool staff team
  12. Hey all, Some good news and bad news this week. Starting with the good news. @Skillen is returning to his position as Server Moderator. Skillen had taken some time off to focus on some real-life events, but is now ready to rejoin the team. Please give him a warm welcome back. And now the sadder news: @mut has resigned from Server Moderator. Mut has been with the team for over a year at this point so we're sad to see him go, but we'd like to thank him for his time and effort and wish him the best of luck moving forward. Best regards, the OldSchool staff team
  13. The .jar file should be executable if you have Java installed. If you're sure you have Java installed and it still doesn't run anything when you launch it, you may need to install Jarfix (https://johann.loefflmann.net/en/software/jarfix/index.html) to fix the jar association.
  14. That yellow text on coins really takes me back...
  15. Hey all, Got another round of staff updates for you. First up, the good news: Laws has been promoted to Server Support We wish him the best of luck in his new role . Also as a quick reminder - just because you have not yet been promoted to a staff position does not mean your application has been denied; you may still be promoted at a later date. And now for the sadder news. Ayanami has decided to resign from her position as a Head Moderator, and will instead continue as a Forum Moderator. We have worked with Ayanami for nearly 5 years now so we're sad to see her resign after she's given so much to the team and to the community, but of course we respect her decision. Thankfully she has also decided to stay with us as a Forum Moderator so that she can still continue to support this server and its community. We will continue to look for more staff members, so if you believe you should be given a chance, feel free to post a server support application here. Best regards, The OldSchool staff team
